The Rev. Dr. Alfred E. Baylor, III was born in Washington, D. C. and raised in Forest Heights, Maryland. He found His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the tender age of 7. He was baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Ghost when he was 15 years old at New Covenant Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. He was educated in the Prince George’s County public school system.
Rev. Dr. Baylor is happily married to Rev. Michelle R. Baylor for almost 29 years and has three adult daughters Amber (Alvin), Ashley and Alexis and several grandchildren.
Dr. Baylor has built his career as an academic surgeon. He completed his undergraduate studies at Hampton University and completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is currently attending Ashland Theological Seminary for his Master of Divinity. He came to Detroit as a surgical resident at the WSU/DMC affiliated hospitals and did a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at WSU/DMC. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves for 35 years, most of which as a military surgeon with multiple wartime deployments.
Dr. Alfred E. Baylor, III is a triple board-certified surgeon practicing at the DMC and primarily at Detroit Receiving Hospital (DRH). He is the Chief of Surgery at DRH and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Vice Chair of DEI, Associated Clerkship Director for 3rd year medical students.
He accepted his call to ministry in 2012 at Oak Grove AME church under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Robert Brumfield. He was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the AME church by Bishop John R. Bryant in 2015. He and his wife, Rev. Michelle Baylor, were assigned to pastor, Immanuel Grace AME church in Detroit, in 2018 by Bishop John F. White. Presently, he has been assigned to pastor the historic Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Detroit at the 140th Session of the Michigan Annual Conference by Bishop Frederick Alan Wright. To God be the glory for all that He has done and will do in the lives of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
